Italy to support Pakistan in availing GSP facility: Italian ambassador

Italian government would support Pakistan for availing General System for Preference (GSP) facility which is an indicator for the bright future of trade and economic ties between Pakistan and Italy, Ambassador of Italy Stefano Pontecorvo said on Sunday.

Talking about re-opening of Trade Mission and future of Economic relations between Italy and Pakistan, the ambassador said that it was a good start for economic activities between the two countries. “Our trade commissioner visited Pakistan recently and held meetings with more than eight ministers during his stay including finance and commerce ministers focusing on economic ties,” the ambassador said.

To a question about the decision of Italian government to re-open Trade Mission in Pakistan, he said that reopening of Trade Mission in Pakistan would be a beginning of the revival of trade and economic ties between the two countries.

He said that Italy and Pakistan were enjoying good trade and business relations which had slowed down during the past few years.

He expressed his complete satisfaction over the meetings of his trade commissioner with various Pakistani ministers and hoped there would be a lot of business activities between the two countries soon.

He said many areas of trade and business between the two countries were identified by the Trade Commissioner Riccardo Monti in his recent visit to Pakistan.

He also said that Pakistan could benefit from the Italian expertise especially in the field of agro industry, livestock technology, packaging industry and fruit preservation industry besides leather goods etc.

However, Pakistan has very strong textile, leather, sports and surgical goods industries besides being an agriculture based economy which could be multiplied by using Italian machinery, he said.
