Body to formulate rules for power transfer from CDA to MC

After Local Government (LG) Elections in Islamabad the functions and liabilities of various Directorates and Wings of Capital Development Authority (CDA) would directly or partially shift to the Metropolitan Corporation (MC).

A high level committee under the supervision of additional secretary ministry of interior having representation of chief commissioner Islamabad and member admin CDA would decide the matters regarding power devolution from CDA to MC.

The committee will formulate rules for transfer of power within six months and meeting of the committee being conducted twice in a last week.

The cabinet division, former controlling body of the capital’s civic agency, has also directed the CDA to complete pending work related to the identification of assets, liabilities and other functions, which need to be devolved.

Talking to APP, senior official of CDA said that currently there are 55 directorates of the civic body out of these 55 departments 28 including sports and culture, civic management, water and sewerage, zoo and wildlife and water supply, DMA, E&DM, Rescue 1122, operation of Simly Dam, markets and road maintenance, revenue, environment wing and others will be fully devolved to the MC.

He told the services of nearly 10,000 CDA and ICT administration employees, who are currently working for these wings and directorates, will also be surrendered to the local government.
