Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has replaced the special public prosecutor in the case against former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain, who stands accused of abetting terrorists.

The Sindh government has now appointed Nisar Ahmed Durrani in the place of Mushtaq Jehangiri as the special public prosecutor in the case against the former petroleum minister.

The move comes a day after the paramilitary Rangers filed a petition with the Sindh High Court against the possible transfer of the special public prosecutor in the case.

In their petition, the Rangers submitted that the provincial government, with ulterior motives, was trying to influence the investigation and prosecution.

The Rangers claimed that following the transfer of the investigation officer, the Sindh government wants to replace special public prosecutor Mushtaq Jehangiri to assist Dr Hussain, who is known to be a close aide of former president and Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The newly selected prosecutor Nisar Durrani in a TV interview said that he was called in the prosecution department last night where he was told about his new appointment.

  1. Investigators and prosecutors are for 'sale' like said the former CJP Ch Iftikhar that the Thanas in Karachi are 'auctioned'. There can not be a bigger 'mockery' of Judiciary.
