The Punjab government has decided to further extend the date of getting computerised arm licence keeping in view the reports that one million arms of different category excluding prohibited ones still are remaining to be registered through National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
Most of these one million arms were registered at district level in past through manual system and the government launched the drive to register the weapons through the NADRA to detect the fake licences and illegal weapons.
Under the National Action Plan, the Home Department registered more than 450,000 arms of different categories across the province in record time during the ongoing drive launched by the government in January 2015.
Official sources told APP that during the period of one year from January to December 2015, the government facilitation centre and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA)’s offices issued computerised licences to the arms of various category.
All these weapons are of non-prohibited category as only the federal authorities have powers to issue permits of prohibited arms. Sources stated that last date to apply for computerised license has been extended without fixing deadline with the aim to get the maximum number of weapons under new database. The Punjab government is committed to implementing the National Action Plan in true letter and spirit for the sake of the protection of the life and property of the people, the sources maintained.
After the completion of current drive, the government will cancel all the licenses and launch a crackdown against illegal weapons across Punjab during which violators would have to face punishments and fine according to the laws.
This initiative by the government will not only bring the weapons on the record of the government agencies concerned but also discourage the crimes through illegal arms.
