Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Saturday told tribal elders of North Waziristan Agency (NWA and recently returned temporarily displaced people (TDPs) that the Pakistan Army will continue to remain in the area until the completion of the resettlement process.
Gen Raheel was touring the North Waziristan Agency (NWA) on Saturday where he spent the day with troops and tribesmen of NWA.
Gen Raheel commended all officers of the armed forces for their courage, determination, and the spirit of sacrifice they have displayed in the war against terrorism.
Appreciating the intense hard work of intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies (LEAs), he said that terrorist networks and their linkages are being unearthed across the country and this nexus will be broken at any cost to bring enduring peace. He also vowed to continue all operations until terrorists are eliminated from the country.
The army chief was briefed in detail by the formation commander about the recent progress of ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb, IBOs, and return of TDPs. He was also briefed about ongoing rehabilitation work, and its effects on the socio-economic landscape of the area. He was satisfied with the rehabilitation work’s pace of progress and directed all concerned to ensure a dignified return of TDPs to a better-built and rehabilitated area.
He also inaugurated a 110-bedded Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Mir Ali, which has been equipped with state of the art equipment. He appreciated army engineers for their dedicated efforts in executing quality construction work. To enhance education standards and help locals benefit from the emerging economic opportunities, the COAS announced that a Cadet College would be developed around Mir Ali for the children of Waziristan.
The tribal elders paid rich tributes to the army for its successful operations, and affirmed that with the help of the army, terrorists will never be allowed to return in the area.
Earlier on arrival, the COAS was received by Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Hidayat Ur Rehman.
