The minister for water and power has announced ground breaking of Bhasha dam. Does he realise that Punjab, the bread basket of the country, will not get any water from Bhasha dam or from any other dam on the Indus except what south Punjab is already getting from Tarbela dam, which also is disputed by Sindh?
What will be the future of agriculture in Pakistan if the biggest fertile tract of cropland in the country does not get water from any present or future dam on the Indus, be it Tarbela, Bhasha, Akhori or Skardu dam? Denying Punjab of water for irrigation will result in a 50 percent loss of national food production.
