Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting on National Health Insurance programme at PM House on Thursday. The meeting reviewed the status and progress made in regard to finalisation and launch of National Health Insurance.
The Prime Minister directed the concerned to ensure an effective execution and monitoring of this crucially important health initiative. He said that the program is aimed at providing free of cost treatment for poorest of the poor who are unable to pay for the medical treatment. “Poverty cannot be eliminated without curing the diseases of ailing poor”, stressed the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister further directed that the program should be executed in phases to filter out deficiencies, if any, during the implementation stage. The Prime Minister said that an awareness campaign is necessary so that the people are fully aware about the programme and nature of diseases covered under it.
The meeting was also attended by Ms Saira Afzal Tarar, MOS for National Health Services, Ms Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Dr Musadik Malik, SAPM and senior officials of the government.
