LHC again issues bailable arrest warrants of Ombudsman

The Lahore High Court Wednesday once again issued bailable arrest warrants of Federal Ombudsman Justice (r) Yasmin Abbasey for January 14 after she failed to appear in a contempt petition, despite issuance of bailable arrest warrants earlier.
The court ordered SSP Islamabad to get the warrants implemented and ensure presence of the Ombudsman on next hearing.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed these orders while hearing a contempt petition filed by Salim Baig and Khurram Baig for initiation of contempt proceedings against the federal Ombudsman on violation of court orders.
The court had issued bailable arrest warrants of the Ombudsman on December 7 for Wednesday after she failed to appear twice despite being summoned to explain reasons for violating court orders.
The court took a strict notice of Ombudsman’s absence and again issued her bailable arrest warrants for January 14 while directing SSP Islamabad to get the warrants implemented and ensure ombudsman’s presence on next hearing.
The petitioners through their contempt petition submitted that the court stopped proceedings pending with Federal Ombudsman against them on November but the ombudsman violated the orders by continuing proceedings and issuing orders on November 6 despite communication of the court restraining orders. They contended that the ombudsman committed contempt of court and pleaded the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the respondent.
