Justice Sajjad Ali Shah takes oath as SHC’s CJ

Justice Sajjad Ali Shah took an oath as the 24th Chief Justice (CJ) of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday after former CJ Justice Faisal Arab was promoted as a permanent judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul-Ibad administered oath to Justice Sajjad Ali Shah in Urdu language at a ceremony held in SHC premises. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by judges, attorney general, advocate general and senior lawyers.

Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was among the judges who had refused to take oath under PCO during Musharraf’s rule. Born on August 14, 1957, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah graduated from Government Islami College Karachi and did Masters in law from SM Law College Karachi in 1988.

Justice Shah entered the legal profession in 1985 and during his career, represented government of Pakistan before the Supreme Court and high courts in many important cases.

He was also appointed standing council for government of Pakistan in 2002 and thereafter Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan in 2004. Justice Shah was elevated to the bench of SHC in 2005.
