IGP beefs up security plan for educational institutions

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali on Monday directed police officers to upgrade contingency security plan for all private and government schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions at district level.

The IGP directed the officers to provide office numbers of DIGs, DSPs and SSPs to all private and government schools at the district level. “Schools’ managements should have mobile number of the SHO of their relevant police station,” he said.

Jamali urged DSPs, SSPs and SHOs to review security measures in their respective jurisdictions. He directed to arrange meetings with stakeholders to improve security in order to save the lives of students and teachers.

The IGP directed to ensure several security measures including installation of security cameras at schools, issuance of special entry cards for students and teachers and removal of encroachments placed in front of schools. “Police should ensure foolproof security in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies,” he directed.

“Police’s random snap checking and patrolling should be made strict along all the routes leading to schools in the outskirts of the city,” Jamali said. He directed to formulate an emergency response plan which would comprise overall security measures, strategy and plans.
