Health minister calls on all stakeholders to work towards eradication of polio

Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Monday said the government was committed to eradicating polio in Sindh and they would not rest until every child under five years had been administered polio vaccine well in time.

Talking to media personnel in the Sindh Assembly building, he said that the department had constituted a task force under the Karachi commissioner to achieve the objective of eradicating polio from the province. The minister said that the quality of polio vaccinations would not be compromised.

The minister directed all stakeholders to gear up their efforts to eradicate polio virus and to make anti-polio drive a success. The Sindh government has empowered the Karachi commissioner and deputy commissioners to give polio teams incentives for efficiency and to bring them to task in case of negligence.

Replying to a question, Dahar said that the Health Care Commission had also been established to provide better health care facilities to the people of Sindh. He said that the Commission had the power to take action against public and private health care providers in case of any negligence.

He said that the powers of the health minister and health secretary had been delegated to the Karachi commissioner to take timely action against those showing poor performance.
