Repair work of a water pipeline in Gulshan Iqbal has not started even three days after it burst.

The 48-inch wide pipeline that supplies water to different localities in Karachi from Dhiabiji water pump had burst earlier. Water board authorities have said that until the pipeline is drained empty, it cannot be repaired.

The water board authorities said on Monday that at least 24 hours would be required to repair the damage after the process was started. The city is facing water shortage of around 70 million gallons.

Areas affected due to the damage include Gulshan Iqbal, Numaish Chowrangi, Pir Ilahi Buksh Colony, Old Clifton, Sadar, Old City Area, Kimari and adjoining areas.

Another pipeline was reported burst in Federal Urdu University Area.

The incidents caused problems for the locals as stagnant water restricted their movements.

However, the authorities have cleared the affected areas and pools of stagnant water have been drained from the roads and streets.
