Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM), in a meeting in London on Saturday, decided not to support the Sindh government regarding the issue of extending Rangers’ special powers. The party has opted to remain neutral on the issue.

MQM also agreed on widening the operation throughout the Sindh province for the complete eradication of corruption and various other crimes. A decision was also reached on the Mayor issue during the meeting, and will be announced in a few days time.

On the other hand, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) severely criticised the federal government’s statement that the Sindh government was creating hurdles and not extending the Rangers’ power for the sake of just one person, Dr. Asim Hussain.

PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has threatened a smaller province. He said that the federal minister wants anarchy in the country and said that the party is ready for a fight if challenged.

Qamar Zaman Kaira in a TV interview said that the federal government does not have authority on what happens in the provinces. He said that the federal government must give up on this ‘fascist’ thinking because the federation and the provinces have separate domains.

  1. If the Karachi Operation discontinues, it will be 'blesing in disguise' for MQM. It were they who were against the Rangers' operation because the Rangers did what none else could dare – Chapa on 90. And they also would be the biggest 'beneficiary'. Once the MQM Mayor takes over, they will come back with extra force and will start doing what they have been doing for the last three decades – with Interest to make-up the losses. Pray it does NOT happen. Sind is being run from Dubai and London simultenously.
