Elected councillors and administration of Rawalpindi cantonment board have failed to eliminate encroachments and their selling and slaughtering of goats on footpaths in Chungi No 22 area.

According to details, residents of Chungi No 22 have submitted several applications at the Cantt board to take action against goat sellers and encroachers but the concerned authorities refuse to take action against them.

Goat sellers, scrap, motorbikes dealers, vegetable and fruits vendors on the footpath are growing with due help of influential officials of Cantt board.

Residents say the goats are being slaughtered and their hides and blood are being thrown on the footpath making it a nuisance for the pedestrians. Another problem for them is the increasing number of rats and snakes which creates danger for the residents.

The repair work on the old dilapidated footpaths in Chungi No 22 was recently completed with the efforts of elected member of ward 7 Muhammad Jamil of PML-N but are still occupied by unwanted people due to which pedestrians are facing difficulties and they have to walk on the road putting their lives at risk.

The people of the area have requested the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench that is hearing Rawalpindi encroachment case to take notice of the menace at Chungi-22 as a matter of public interest and order Cantt board chief executive to take immediate action against encroachers who are totally free to occupy any vacant area for carrying out their businesses.
