All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, a body representing city traders, threatened on Friday to surround the Sindh Assembly over its failure to extend powers of Rangers.

“The Sindh government should refrain from creating hindrance in work of security agencies,” Atiq Mir, president of the alliance, told media persons.

He said the government was trying to open a way to money extortion. “Investment is returning to Karachi due to the operations carried out by Sindh Rangers in Karachi,” he said.

The AKTI chief further said that there was 90 percent reduction in incidents of kidnapping for ransom. The traders’ demand came after Sindh Assembly ignored a resolution seeking extension of powers to the paramilitary force.
