Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Barrister Ali Zafar has announced to resort to parliamentary committee against appointment of adhoc judges in the Supreme Court (SC).
“We will approach the parliamentary committee on the issue of induction of adhoc judges and impress upon it that the law enacted with respect to appointment of judges is being misused. We assure you that SCBA will not back down on this matter,” he said this while addressing lawyers at a ceremony held here to mark International Human Rights Day on Thursday.
“Now it is time we promoted culture of tolerance and harmony in the society. If we don’t do that then we will have to face dire consequences in the future. This is not only the responsibility of the government and judiciary to play their role for safeguarding rights but the lawyers will also have to play their role,” he said.
He urged the government to declare an emergency for protection of woman, children and minorities rights.
SCBA former president Asma Jahangir said that the law reforms case was lying with the SC which should be decided forthwith. “We will not accept those judges who remained chief minister and held other portfolios in care taker governments in the past and now they want to sit in SC by becoming junior most judges. If the government has to taste a dish then it should bring back Justice (Retd) Jawad S Khawaja as not only lawyers will taste something delicious but also the government will taste it,” she remarked.
She asked SCBA to approach the parliamentary committee and present their cases before it on the adhoc appoint of judges in the SC.
