NAB Rawalpindi has finalized investigations on 18 mega corruption cases which include Rawalpindi Metro Bus Project (MBP).
Sources told Online that NAB has completed inquiry into alleged corruption of Rs 300 million committed in the construction of metro bus Rawalpindi. Million of rupees were allegedly embezzled in the purchase of chillers in MBP. NAB has obtained documented evidence and identified the responsible in the scam. Heavy loss has reportedly been inflicted on national exchequer in the purchase of chillers and other equipment.
NAB Rawalpindi has also completed investigation into plots scandal against interior secretary Shahid Khan besides finalizing the probe into billions of rupees of corruption in respect of Hayat Regency Hotel located at Murree road Islamabad. Investigations against former National Assembly (NA) deputy speaker Fazal Karim Kundi into scam of purchase of plot by him at G-9 Markaz Islamabad for construction of cinema have also been finalized by NAB.
NAB has also finished examination of corruption in the construction of Bahara Kahu-Faizabad road and construction of zero point interchange. Inquiries into sugar scams in ministry of commerce have also been given final shape. Investigation into corruption of billion of rupees into two important cases of Sharaqpur power project and Bhikki power project in connection with RPP scandal has also been finalized by NAB and former secretary water and power has been held responsible for corruption in these projects.
While reading the report, the thoughts that came to my mind, I found them already reflected in the question raised by ‘neutral’ who, very appropriately said “NAB has been very active and in news almost every day in Media since the Retired Major took over but any concrete outcome ? The very high-profile corruption cases have not been touched so far. “
And that brings to my mind an earlier report that gave details of a NAB meeting to which Mian Mohammad Mansha was called. It was stated in the report that the meeting was conducted in a very cordial atmosphere and the NAB officials rushed to shake hands with Mian Mansha, and that would have made the occasion look look more like an old boys reunion at which the participants were delighted to meet their old friends and associates.
And the really, really big ones have not even been called to any meeting yet.
And that reminds me of the saying which is most appropriate for our country:
“Every one is under the law, except those who are above it”.
The problem is that there seem to be, not just a few, but far too many people above the law, and that means nearly all the people holding important positions.
