Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Secretariat has recently sacked 58 employees of health department on charges of pro-longed absence from their respective places of duty.

Secretary FATA Planning and Development Shakeel Qadir Afridi talking to APP here on Friday said it is quite an issue in FATA as most of the employees are not regularly performing their duties. He said the Human Resource Audit Committee was being constituted comprising officials of law enforcement agencies and Education Department to monitor the overall performance of schools besides keeping vigilant attendance of teachers.

He said 34,000 teaching staff is working in 6,000 schools in FATA and majority of them usually remains absent. “A number of corrective measures have been taken to improve the situation through a comprehensive monitoring system”, he added.

Answering a question, he said to check curse like, corruption, nepotism and misuse of authority, FATA Secretariat had recently introduced Grievances Redressal System (GRS).

Under GRS, he said people of FATA can approach directly to FATA Secretariat seeking redressal of their grievances.

When asked to shed light on why a large number of government staff had failed to regularly attend their offices, he said lack of basic facilities in the remote areas including unavailability of communication infrastructure, absence of safe drinking water and other problems are major hurdles on their way to be regular for duties.
