Disabled persons to be enrolled in govt schools: minister

Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait ul Maal Syed Haroon Sultan has said that separate schools for the disabled children are creating aggressive attitude and inferiority complex among them which is a big hurdle to lead them towards normal life like other citizens.
The Social Welfare Department has evolved a comprehensive strategy to enroll the disabled persons in government and semi-government schools to diminish the discrimination and inferiority complex for their rehabilitation.
He expressed these views while presiding over a first meeting to review the Punjab Policy for Disabled Persons. Senior officers of the Department besides all stakeholders attended the meeting. The minister informed the participants that equal opportunities would be provided to disabled persons in Punjab Vocational and Skills Development Programme so that they can earn their livelihood instead of begging. He said that special training would be given to the disabled persons for the discharge of everyday affairs.
He said trained staff would also be provided to handicap persons who are unable to take part in any training session. Sultan said that heads of all government and semi-government departments would be bound to ensure the construction of ramps, lifts, toilets and other facilities for disabled persons.
Sultan said that collection of correct and complete data of disabled persons is essential to achieve all the desired targets. The minister expressed his satisfaction over the performance of Social Welfare Department to complete this work with the cooperation of Tehsil and District Headquarters.
