The foundation-laying ceremony of Topian Spirit Trust (TST) academic campus was held at Rashidabad on Thursday.
Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, was the chief guest on the occasion.
He unveiled the plaque to mark the foundation laying of TST academic campus, says a PAF statement issued on Thursday.
Upon arrival, the air chief was received by Air Commodore (r) Shabbir Ahmed, Executive Director Rashid Memorial Welfare Organisation (RMWO) Air Marshal (Retd) Rashid Kaleem, President TST and Air Commodore Nayyar Q Khawaja (Retd), Principal SST (Sargodhian Spirit Trust).
Air Commodore (r) Shabbir Ahmed apprised the audience that the focus of RMWO was on eliminating illiteracy and alleviating deprivation from the country through establishing projects at district level. The project encompasses four essential elements of progress (education, health, environment and socio-economic uplift), which are needed to be addressed at all costs to help the deprived.
While addressing the audience, the air chief lauded the valuable contributions made by the RMWO in serving the underprivileged of the country. He was of the view that Rashidabad was a role model for the entire nation and it had made remarkable progress in a short span of time. He reiterated that the PAF would continue supporting the project and its noble cause in future as well. RMWO was set up by a group of retired PAF officers in 1998, in memory of Flt Lt Rashid Ahmed Khan (Shaheed). Rashidabad is stretched over 100 acres and is situated near Mirpurkhas (Sindh). The objective of RMWO is to set up model villages throughout the country to provide essential facilities to the needy rural folk.
