Resolution to be tabled in SA for extending Rangers powers: Khuhro

Sindh’s Senior Education Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Wednesday that Rangers’ responsibilities in Sindh were aimed at eradicating target killings, extortion menace and terrorism. According to Article 147 of the Constitution, Rangers must seek the prior approval from the chief minister for any action. Rangers should also follow the Article, he said.

Talking to media at Sindh Assembly Building, he said a resolution would be tabled in Sindh Assembly’s session to discuss the matter. He said that Rangers was called to support the police in restoring the law and order situation in Sindh. He said it was mandatory to call the Rangers through approval from the Sindh Assembly which was not implemented yet. So in the first stage, it would be necessary to seek the approval for extending Rangers power from the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, he said.

Khuhro said that a resolution regarding Rangers’ powers would be presented in the assembly session in which the members would express their views. He said on the assembly’s floor every member in the session would have chance to discuss the matter and give his opinion.
