Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday to ensure that no employee of PIA was laid off, after converting the organisation into a company.
The finance minister briefed the prime minister on the new Ordinance concerning the Pakistan International Airlines, a statement from the PM House said.
The prime minister was informed about the salient features of the new PIA company law partnership, which, he said included job protection of all employees of PIA. He was informed that the new changes would insulate PIA from bureaucratic control and would run the airline on an autonomous corporate model similar to OGDCL.
The finance minister also apprised the prime minister that the government was totally focussed on rehabilitation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) who had given sacrifices after the launch of operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The prime minister directed that all resources be made available for prompt and honourable rehabilitation of TDPs.
The finance minister informed the prime minister that out of the Rs 40 billion revenue proposed to be generated through regulatory duty on luxury items , Rs 27 billion would be allocated to provinces.
