Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar told the National Assembly on Wednesday that an understanding had been reached with the Opposition to form a joint parliamentary committee to take up the issue of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and PIA Corporation (Conversion) Ordinance, 2015.
He said the committee would allay the fears of PIA employees regarding restructuring of the airlines. It will also decide as to what strategy would be adopted about the PIA.
Ishaq Dar said when the present government took over, the PIA was causing 42 billion rupees loss annually. However, he said, as a result of corrective measures taken by the government the loss had lowered to 21 billion dollars. He said the Airlines fleet had been enhanced to 38 from 18 during the two and half years. Earlier, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad laid before the House the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) Ordinance, 2015.
