Hours after India’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Islamabad to attend the Heart of Asia conference, a leading Pakistani journalist’s Twitter account was apparently hacked to send out a derogatory tweet about Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and India’s external affairs minister.
The controversial tweet from the verified Twitter account of Hamid Mir – a popular anchor with the Geo News channel – got more than 500 retweets. “I want to apologise to everyone and specially our ISI and Army that I blamed them for every dirty shit,” tweeted from his account “@HamidMirGEO.”
Soon thereafter, Mir tweeted that he had received a “lot of twitter password reset requests” and that someone (is) trying to hack me”. He also tweeted that he had changed the settings of his Twitter account and recovered the password.
Other journalists too tweeted that Mir’s account had been hacked.
Mir, who survived an assassination attempt in April 2014, subsequently tweeted several email exchanges between him and others at Geo News that he claimed were linked to the apparent hacking of his account.
He tweeted that he had “evidence and I’ll put it on air soon, it’s not a joke.”
