Currency Smuggling case: Ayan Ali challenges customs court indictment in LHC

Model Ayan Ali on Tuesday challenged Customs court verdict of indictment in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Ayan Ali appeared in Customs court of Rawalpindi for the first time since getting her passport from Customs officials. Customs court Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed was hearing the case during which Customs officials presented eight witnesses of the prosecution.

Customs Intelligence officials requested the court to start proceedings over the petition filed to register money laundering case against Ayan Ali, on which Ayan’s lawyer Shaista advocate told the court that the verdict regarding Ayan’s indictment had been challenged in LHC.

Shaista demanded the court to adjourn the hearing until December 21 because of the hearing in LHC and because Ayan Ali’ counsel Khuram Latif Khosa is taking part in Punjab bar elections and, therefore, cannot appear in the court.

The court rejected the petition and announced the next hearing on December 16. The court ordered the accused to ensure presence of her lawyers in the next hearing.
