Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday once again issued notices to Director General (DG) Rangers, Inspector General Sindh (IG) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the plea filed by Dr Asim’s mother.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh was hearing the case during which judge decided to forward notices to DG Rangers, IG Sindh and NAB officials for December 15 in Dr Asim case.
The claimant Aijaz Fatima requested the court to prevent the Rangers and other departments from exerting pressure on the investigating officer while giving opportunity to the police to freely interrogate the case. She alleged that the Rangers and other departments are building pressure on the investigating officer.
Investigation officer claimed that former petroleum minister Dr Asim confessed to terrorism and corruption related accusations against him.
Earlier, Dr. Asim was presented in the SHC by police, he met his daughter who was there to submit affidavit saying that her father’s life is in danger.
Investigation officer requested the court for another 5 days remand of Dr. Asim in order to continue investigation. The investigation officer said that Dr. Asim has confessed to treating terrorists at his hospital.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials were also present in the court to plea for the custody of Dr. Asim . NAB submitted the petition for his custody, accusing him of corruption.
Dr. Asim’s lawyer Amir Raza said that his client has been in the police custody for 90 days and giving remand of another 90 days is against the law. He said that NAB has not submitted any proof against Dr. Asim with the petition so according to NAB’s section 24, Dr. Asim cannot be given in NAB custody without any solid proof against him.
Asim is accused of providing shelter and treatment to target killers and terrorists in Ziauddin Hospital that he owns. After the 90-day remand expired, a case was launched against him in North Nazimabad Police Station. The case involves terrorism sections.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Sindh ruling party, Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) members have also been nominated in the case.
