Mockery in the name of ‘peace’ in Karachi must stop: Zardari

Former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari on Monday said that mockery in the name of “peace” in Karachi should stop now. Talking to a local TV channel, the former president said that issues get complicated instead of getting resolved due to use of force. He said that the democratic process should move forward to improve law and order situation in the country. Zardari‘s remarks come at a time when the authorities have intensified their crackdown on corrupt officials in Sindh. His close aide and former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain was arrested from the office of High Education Commission in Clifton on August 26 this year over alleged involvement in “terror and violence financing, misappropriation of funds for enhancing support for terrorism and other criminal activities”. Earlier in August, an anti-corruption court issued an arrest warrant for former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, in a case alleging millions of dollars in graft in a trade development scheme.
