Stage actress Sobia Rana found dead

Stage actress Sobia Rana popularly known as Sangam Rana was found dead in mysterious circumstances in her home, police said on Monday.

The police said the actress was found dead in her room on Sunday and her family is not allowing officials to carry out medico-legal formalities. “The body has been shifted to a mortuary and cause of her death would only be ascertained after autopsy,” said a police official.

According to reports, Sobia who was performing at local stage for seven years, had an altercation with her sister, also a stage actress, last night before going to her room. The body is said to have been found hanging from the ceiling of the room.

Sangam’s sister Shama Rana is also a stage actress. Sangam had been gaining popularity after her continued string of successful performances at Alfalah Theatre for the past three years.

According to sources, both sisters were performing at the theatre on Sunday night where Sangam had a clash with her sister after which both sisters left the stage. Sangam also had a clash with the producer of the play, the sources added.

However, Shama informed the police on Monday that her sister Sangam had committed suicide. Police officials said that after the initial investigation, the deceased’s body was sent to Jinnah Hospital for postmortem.

On the other hand, Shama asked the authorities to hand over her sister’s body without postmortem but Sangam’s mother requested them to investigate the matter.

Police said the matter is being investigation and stage producers and actresses are being interrogated.

Victim’s mother has also submitted an application to police for lodging an FIR of the incident. According to the application, Sangam was staying with her sister for the past four years to earn a name in field of modeling and stage, and Shama murdered her with the help of her friends Kashif and Shaan.

The FIR has not yet been registered as police are waiting for the postmortem report, the sources added.
