Qaim felicitates Waseem Akhtar for MQM’s victory in LB polls

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sunday telephoned leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Waseem Akhtar and congratulated him for winning the local bodies elections in Karachi.

According to CM House spokesman, the CM called on Waseem Akhtar and felicitated him and his party for being victorious in the elections. He said the Sindh government respected and applauded MQM’s mandate and wanted to see prosperity in the metropolis.

Earlier, unofficial and inconclusive results were received for Sindh and MQM has been unofficially declared as the winner in Karachi. Some influential candidates of the opponent parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Ali Zaidi, Jamat-e-Islami’s (JI) Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman and Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Najmi Alam failed to cause an upset in the elections.

MQM’s possible candidates for Karachi’s mayorship Waseem Akhtar and Rehan Hashmi won the polls. Akhtar won from UC-11, Aqab Jacob Line, while another party candidate Saadullah won from Bhatonagar, Municipal Corporation Korangi.

PTI LEADER ALVI COAGULATES MQM ON WINNING LG POLLS

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Arif Alvi congratulated Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on winning majority of seats in the local government election held on Saturday.

In his message on Twitter, Member of National Assembly from Karachi’s NA 246, Dr Alvi, acknowledged that the MQM had won large number of union councils in the metropolis.

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has congratulated Muttahida Qaumi Movement for winning in local government elections in Karachi and hoped that now they will serve Karachi and the Karachiites.

Addressing an event at a local hall at Naushehro Feroze and later talking to media, JI Pakistan Naib Amir Rashid Naseem said it was a welcome development that the local government elections were held in the tenure of an elected government. He asked that local government bodies should be given financial and administrative powers so that they could serve their voters. He congratulated the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in their win in local government elections in Karachi and hoped that now they would serve the city.

However, a press release of the Karachi chapter JI said that combined candidates of the JI and PTI won 17 seats of chairman in the local government polls according to the announced results. They include Waleed Ahmed from UC8, PECHS (East), Muhammad Junaid Meqati from UC 12 Delhi Merchantile Society (East), Firdous Shameem Naqvi from US18 Civic Center (East), Ghulam Akbar Morejo from UC23 Shanti Nagar (East), and Asghar Ali Gabol from UC-30 Safoora.

The winner candidates from district West included Abdul Qayum from UC-1 Sher Shah, Abdul Samad from UC-4 Metroville, Nawaz Khan from UC14 Banaras Colony, Abdul Qayum from UC-21 Hariyana Town, Izharul Haq from UC 23 Mominabad and Muhammad Amir Tariq from UC33 Gulshan e Ghazi.

In district South Fazalur Rehman from UC 6 Moosa Lane, Babu Ghulam Hussain from UC-15 Nawa Lane and Muhammad Hanif Mulla from UC-30 Clifton won the seat of chairmen.

However, from district Korangi Asad Gujjar was elected as chairman and Muhammad Khalid Mehmood as vice chairman from UC-12 Green Town.

In district Malir Abdullah Rajakhel was elected as chairman and Abdul Qudoos vice chairman from UC-8 Moeenabad, and Chaudhry Fazal Haq as chairman from UC 23. However, no joint candidate of the JI and PTI could win from the district Central Karachi.
