Work on two additional lanes of expressway completed

Two additional lanes added to the Islamabad Express way has been completed and the deck has been laid on the I-8 interchange enabling opening of the complete expressway for traffic.

After completions of additional lanes, loops and carpeting, lane marking, work is in full swing to make I-8 Bridge operational within four days whereas final touches are being given plantation and landscaping of the signal free expressway project.

Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Maroof Afzal accompanied by Member Administration and Estate, Amer Ali Ahmed, accompanied by the senior officers of the Engineering wing of CDA recently visited the project to inspect the development work.

Afzal said after the completion of the additional lanes, carpeting and lane marking and the loops included in its scope of the project is virtually complete; however, final touches are being given.

German road infrastructure expert has supervised the carpeting, which has been carried out in line with the international standard to ensure quality project execution. Modern German machinery has also been utilized to carry out the carpeting and other development work on the unique project.

CDA management said that the project is of utmost priority as Islamabad Highway is the major artery for access to the capitals with ever-growing traffic, adding that expansion of IH was the dire need of the hour for easing the amassed traffic flow.

Chairman CDA said that work on the drainage system and retaining wall along the newly constructed lane has been completed whereas of environmental work on the project to protect and preserve the beautiful green character and ensure its proper horticulture development, especially green belts, median strips is being given final touches.
