The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3rd December. This day was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nation General Assembly through a resolution. The purpose of this day is to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of social, economic and cultural life.

Disabled persons are also the part of our society. They must not be ignored. Punjab government is doing well for the welfare of these disabled persons. It has established special centres for education and training of these persons. The Social Welfare Department has established NGOs for these persons that train them in handicrafts and other activities which enable them to face the challenges in life.

We all must try to make life easier for them by training them to play their role in the progress of the country.
