Water crisis persists in Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantts

The residents of Cantonment Areas in the Garrison city are facing shortage of water due to negligence of authorities concerned in Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantt, as people accuse them of rewarding the Tanker mafia.

According to details residents of New Lalazar, Gulistan colony and Chungi 22 are still out of water, as tanker mafia robs them by exploiting their helplessness. A private tanker is selling water from Rs.1,200 to Rs.1,800 in Cantt areas.

The residents have accused the authorities concerned of being indifferent to their problems as repeated complaints have landed on deaf ears. They said that the Cantt Areas of the city are facing shortage of water for the last several years and despite claims of bringing in water from Khanpur dam, there has been no improvement in the supply, which is provided for an hour on alternate days in poor localities. Some people living in rural areas have complained that there have been no water pipelines and they have to fetch water or bore their own hand pumps. However, they say, excessive water is available in the areas where VIPs live.

The residents of Gulistan Colony, New Lalazar and Chungi no. 22 while talking to INP said despite recording repeated complaints no action has been taken and now with the start of winter season gas shortage has also become a problem, and the administration only focuses on VIP areas of Cantt.

They have appealed the Corps commander and concerned authorities to take immediate notice of their miseries as they too are citizens of Pakistan and deserve humanitarian treatment. They said they are making this appeal as the elected counsellors have failed to be of any help.
