KP minister inaugurates 10-day cleanliness drive in Peshawar

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for LG&RD InayatUllah Khan inaugurated 10-day cleanliness and awareness campaign in Peshawar by operating specialized solid waste collection equipment along with District Nazim Arbab Mohammad Asim Khan in slum area (Kachi Abadi) Changarabad.

The campaign under slogan of ‘Safa Peshawar’ will be jointly carried out by WSSP, Town-1, UNICEF and NGOs of WASH Cluster wherein the local government representatives and officials would activity participate in the drive and would reach at every street, bazaar and road to create importance of cleanliness among the general masses. The WSSP would ensure cleanliness and remove garbage and solid waste while the municipal and town administration would dispose the waste building material (malba) lying anywhere in the city

Inayatullah during his address on this occasion took oath and promise of all the people present there with raising their hands, to whole heartedly take part in the drive and make it a success story. He said cleanliness is essential part of life while Islam termed it half of the faith. He said that KP Chief Minister will be chief guest at concluding ceremony of the drive and if the result was not satisfactory after survey of WSSP then it would  be extended for another 10 days.

Inayatullah regretted that Sharif brothers on political and govt arena just endeavoured to make only Lahore a beautiful city and that too in their own style but ignored rest of the country. He further lamented that Peshawarites were given only lip service and hollow slogans of mega projects, which are rather exploited. However he assured that his govt would usher in new era of development and beautification to revive the past glory of this ancient and historical city. He said presently huge fund of Rs 29 billion were being spent on uplift and beautification of Peshawar while Rs 5 billion were also released to the local LG representatives that would turn our provincial metropolis into a world class  clean and green city provided all these funds were utilized properly and transparently for the purpose.

The senior minister expressed satisfaction that WSSP during its past one year’s performance removed 29 million ton filth and garbage from the city plus clearing 45 thousands ton old dumps and heaps that had made many areas of the city much ugly for decades. He expressed the confidence that WSSP would also honour its promise of providing clean drinking water to the city dwellers with installation of a new water filtration plant soon. He asked the people not to throw garbage openly in the streets but carefully hand it over to the sanitary staff on fixed times daily.

District Nazim Arbab Mohammad Asim Khan, Naib Nazim Syed Qasim Ali Shah, Nazim Town -1 Zahid Nadeem, and Naib Nazim Shoib Bangash, WSSP head Qazi Mohammad Naeem and other elite also addressed and reiterated their pledge to make Peshawar a clean and healthy city with active support of the locals.
