Governor for more Pak-US cooperation in education sector

Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana has stressed the need to further enhance cooperation between Pakistan and US for the promotion of quality education at primary and higher levels.

He was addressing the participants of 11th convocation of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) in Johar Town as Patron. Federal Minister for Planning and National Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Vice Chairman UMT Board of Governors, former chairman senate and former acting president Muhammad Mian Soomro, US Consulate General in Lahore Zarchary Harkenrider, UMT Rector Dr Hassan Sohaib Murad, DG Dr Abid Hussain Khan Sherwani and Vice Chancellors of Public Sector Universities also were present on the occasion.

He said that education sector will rise in Pakistan with the cooperation of US government and donor agencies like United States Education Foundation and USAID. He welcomed recent meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and US President Obama in which both the leaders agreed to expand cooperation in education sector.

The governor said the current democratic government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif believed in quality education at the doorstep of every citizen for the sake of prosperity and development in country. He said various projects were in progress for the provision of education in the province.

He expressed his concerns over the low quality of education in private sector at higher level and asked the management of such institutions to improve the standard as early as possible.

He advised the students to concentrate on their higher studies with an aim to play due role in the development of country.
