Two international flights were diverted to other stations after up-to-date landing system at the Allama Iqbal International Airport failed to assist in dense fog.

A Qatar Airlines flight, 628 from Doha was directed to Karachi while a private airline jet, 413 was instructed to land in Islamabad.

Sight-limit at the runway was reported at least 300 meters which was optimum for the landing system to function in fog-related situations. The authorities had claimed that the state-of-the-art system would function till 50 meters of range.

It should be mentioned here that Chief Minister Shebaz Sharif had inaugurated the the technology at Allama Iqbal International Airport on November 28.

Qatar had donated ILS CATIIIB technology worth at least $25 million to Pakistan. The upgradation at the Lahore airport was completed within four months.
