300pc hike in package okayed for deceased civil servants’ families

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the long awaited revised assistance package for government employees who died during service, increasing the lump sum grant by 300 per cent.

The package approved by the prime minister on Thursday, will be effective from February 9, 2016. Under the revised assistance package, a 300 per cent increase has been given in the lump sum granted in the package.

Families of employees from BS 1-4 would be paid Rs 600,000; BS 5-10 would get Rs 900,000, BS 11-15  Rs 1200,000, BS 16-17, Rs 1,500,000; BS 18-19 Rs 2,400,000 and BS 20 and above Rs 3,000,000.

Families of the deceased government servants would get 100 per cent pension as per their length of service and last pay drawn. In case a servant’s service was less than 10 years, the rate of minimum 10 years service will be applicable.

The families would be allowed to retain the government house or pay rent of a hired house until the age of superannuation.

A quota of two per cent for the allotment of plots has been discontinued and instead a lump sum grant would be paid to the families in lieu of the plot, subject to the condition that no plot had been allotted in the past. A grant of Rs 2 million will be paid for the plot for employees in BS 1-8, Rs 5 million for BS-9-16, and Rs 17 million for BS 17 and above.

In case of advance against salaries sanctioned by the AGPR or the provincial AG Office, the unpaid balance will be waived.

To help the family, employment for posts in BS-1 to BS-15 would be given to a son/daughter of the deceased employee on two years contract without advertisement. Marriage grant amounting to Rs 800,000 would be given for the wedding of one daughter of the deceased government employee.

Families can avail free health facilities as per their entitlement. A monthly benevolent grant has also been raised for the families of the deceased employees.

A much improved assistance package has also been approved by the prime minister for security related deaths. The family of the deceased employee in BS 1-16 would be paid a lump sum grant of Rs 3 million, BS-17 Rs 5 million, BS 18-19 Rs 9 million and BS 20 and above Rs 10 million.

Officers/officials incapacitated and released from service for having become invalid as a result of injury in encounters/bomb blasts, riots/watch and ward duty or terrorist activity would be paid Rs 700,000. Those officers/officials incapacitated because of the injury in incidents of terrorism but still serving the departments would be paid Rs 500,000.

They would also be entitled to other facilities provided in the package to the families of deceased civil servants.
