Paper rechecking has become source of income in the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, due to which the paper marking system has become void, no law has been formulated against the ones showing slackness and negligence in the marking process.
According to reports, it has been observed that in several cases despite correct answers, students receive no marks, and also many serious mistakes in totalling marks has been found.
Parents and students said in this connection that the Rawalpindi board fails thousands of the students every year and when challenged, they are offered re-checking of papers, because it increases the income of the board. Insiders said that in the recent exams Rs 10 lacs have been collected in just papers rechecking because the students are required to deposit a particular amount for the rechecking of every paper.
Parents and students who come to the board from other districts have complained that they are maltreated and mostly told to return later, on the ground that either the concerned officials were on leave or too busy without giving any consideration.
Parents and students have demanded that the board should follow a fair process. They said in case the marking or total is wrong, the fee for rechecking be reimbursed to the applicant because it was due to inefficiency of the board which selected paper checkers.
When approached, spokesman of the board Arslan Cheema told that rechecking process takes place according to law and now this system has become online and if someone has any problem he can contact the chairman of the board.
