No mechanism to check, verify computerised weapons licenses

Weapon dealers are issuing rounds on fake licenses as there is no biometric mechanism in place to check and verify fake weapons licenses, Pakistan Today has learnt.

Sources said many people got their illegal licenses registered when they were made computerised with biometric attestation in NADRA office.

They further said that even currently people are having fake computerized licenses since dealers and DCO office have no such a comprehensive system to check and the illegal licenses.

Dealers are also in hurry to make money by selling rounds for illegal and fake license holders because they have not been provided with any biometric machines to check the illegal license holders, said the sources.

Officials of Weapon Branch also claimed that it has become easy in Lahore to take permission for further rounds against the weapons in the name of enmity.

They said even police can not arrest illegal weapon holders because they do not have biometric system for this purpose.

When contacted the officer concerned in DCO office Lahore of Weapon Branch Muhammad Shahbaz, he said process of computerisation of licenses is still underway.

He said permission is required for a license holder to get extra rounds mentioning reason in the form.

Talking about license of Kalashnikov and G-3 rifle, Shahbaz said that currently Interior Ministry has put ban on the license of Kalashnikov, and extra rounds against the Kalashnikov can be got after seeking permission from the Home Department.
