British mom ‘slashed with knife, beaten with sticks’ in Pakistan

A British woman was allegedly slashed across the arms with a knife and attacked with sticks as part of a long-running feud in Pakistan.

Interpol is investigating after Aisha Suleman said she suffered wounds at the hands of two women known to her husband. The 54-year-old, from Birmingham, was travelling alone to Islamabad when the alleged attack took place.

But Suleman claimed she was barred from reporting the alleged attack to the authorities by members of her husband’s family. She said she turned to police after her return to Britain on September 28, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The mother-of-five said: “I was petrified – it was a planned attack because they trapped me in the kitchen and then attacked me with knives and sticks.

“They slashed my arms and wounded my head. I almost died and my children would have had no mother.”

“For days after the attack I couldn’t get out of bed because I was so ill.

“My entire life has been put on hold because of this mess. I’m a practicing Muslim and if I didn’t have my religion I would have died years ago,” she said.

Suleman was in Pakistan visiting her husband Azam Baig’s elderly parents when the alleged attack happened.

She claimed it was triggered by jealousy because she was given the responsibility of cooking and cleaning during her time in the country.

Suleman came to Britain from Singapore and is a part-time jewellery sales woman. West Midlands Police confirmed the force received an allegation of assault. It said the case had been passed to Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organisation.

A spokesman said: “An assault was reported to our officers and that information has now been handed over to Interpol.

“We will now make sure the victim is kept up-to-date with any official communications.”
