The construction work on Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) has been delayed as incumbent administration of the institution has failed to send revise PC-1 of the project to Sindh Health department.
An official of the Health department said construction work of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit in NIVCD had been delayed due to lethargy of the institution’s administration.
He said that Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had laid down the foundation stone of the 200-bed Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit in the NICVD Karachi on September 26, 2014 and the project was to be completed within two years with the estimated cost of Rs 1.8 billion but unfortunately, even after more than a year, the construction of the project could not be started.
Construction work on the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit was delayed after retirement of executive director Prof Khan Shah Zaman as the current executive director of the institution failed to send revise PC-1 of the project to Sindh Planning and Development department on time despite several directives of the health department, sources said.
They said that the management had also failed to get vacated residential quarters from employees to use their land for pediatric cardiac surgery unit despite the passage of one year and added that funds allocated for construction of the project would likely lapse due to lethargy of the administration.
National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Executive Director Prof Dr Nadeem Qamar, when contacted, said that PC-1 of the project had already been submitted to the department concerned and construction work of the pediatric surgery unit would start when funds are released by the government.
