Sharif urges UK-based Pakistani traders to invest in country
Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan has passed through difficult times in recent days but now with the blessings of Almighty Allah, a bright future is awaiting for us.
He expressed these views while addressing World Congress of Overseas Pakistanis in London on Sunday. The chief minister said that every Pakistani living abroad is ambassador of Pakistan and Pakistani traders, investors, industrialists, intellectuals and other prominent persons are not only playing their role in socio-economic development of various countries of world but also promoting the image of Pakistan. He said that China by announcing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has opened the doors of foreign investment in Pakistan.
He said that Britain-based Pakistani industrialists and traders should make investment in Pakistan as there is profit as well as service to the country in it. He said that those terming Chinese investment in energy sector as loans tried to ridicule the spirit of Pak-China friendship. He said, “We are working round the clock for realising the dream of eliminating loadshedding.” He said Pak Army, officers and Jawans of security institutions and citizens have rendered historic sacrifices for making Pakistan a safe country.
“It is my belief that Pakistan is a blessing of Almighty Allah and we will achieve the goals of progress and prosperity. We know that the menace of terrorism did not come overnight nor it can be defeated in a day.” He expressed the hope that we will soon overcome terrorism. As long as shortage of energy is concerned, he said, “We had prepared our roadmap in the beginning and now implementing expeditiously.” He said that if hurdles are not created in the way of government, then we will succeed in overcoming loadshedding till 2018.
Meanwhile,Shehbaz Sharif met nominated British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew in London on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that we welcome new High Commissioner to Pakistan. He said that UK is extending valuable cooperation to Pakistan in education, health and security sectors. He said. “We are confident that after appointment of new High Commissioner of UK, this cooperation will be further enhanced.” Thomas Drew said that British administration and politicians are fully aware of your work and name and Shehbaz Sharif is famous in Britain as a leader who believes only in work. He said that the development projects and programmes of Punjab are appreciated in Britain.
The five-day visit of Shehbaz Sharif to Britain will be very busy.
The chief minister will hold meetings with British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth and British Home Secretary. He will also meet Secretary of State and Minister of State for International Development, British Minister for Trade and Investment and Advisor of National Security Council. Sharif will also address ‘UK-Pakistan Energy and Infrastructure Conference’.
He will hold meetings with senior British authorities as well as Chief Executive of British Council and heads of other important institutions. The purpose of the visit of the chief minister is to promote cooperation with Britain in education, health, skill development and other sectors. A memorandum of understanding would also be signed between the Punjab government and British Council for increasing cooperation.
Sharif will address all parties parliamentary group of Members British Parliament regarding Pakistan. He will meet British authorities in University of London regarding Knowledge Park and Higher Education. The visit of Sharif is of vital importance with regard to promotion of relations between Britain and Pakistan especially Punjab.
