Capital all set for first-ever LG polls

Electioneering for the first ever local government elections in Islamabad came to close at midnight on Saturday.

The candidates are making last ditch efforts and carrying out door to door canvassing to convince the voters in their favour. The capital territory has been divided into 50 union councils (UCs) and 460 polling stations have been set up at 326 buildings.

Of these, 62 buildings have been declared the most sensitive. Over 2,400 candidates are competing for the seats of chairman, vice chairman and councillors.

The election commission meanwhile has completed all arrangements in connection with the polls to be held on Monday.

Meanwhile, the campaigning has reached peak for the third phase of LG elections in Punjab and Sindh to be held on 5 December.

Electioneering for the third phase of LG election will be held in six districts of the Karachi division. 7.1 million voters will use their right to franchise in this phase.5,483 candidates are contesting elections on 1,520 seats in all six districts in the city.
