President Mamnoon Hussain announced on Saturday that every poor child aged between four to 12 years would be provided Rs 250 monthly for the acquisition of education.

While addressing an inauguration ceremony of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Waseela-e-Taleem at Makli, Hussain said that 6.7 million children were deprived of education but this scheme would help them in eradicating illiteracy. “Crime rate and extremism have increased due to poverty and ignorance; however, living standard of the people would be made high by providing them benefit from this scheme,” the president said.

He said Pakistan was facing major issues like poverty, ignorance, lawlessness, terrorism, extremism and load shedding but this programme would provide an opportunity to the poor children for acquiring education. “The government is offering full chances for the social and economic development through its different schemes like Benazir Income Support Programme,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president appreciated the efforts of the Pakistan Army in eradicating terrorism and extremism. “Zarb-e-Azb and Karachi operation have yielded positive result,” he said. Mamnoon said the country was facing serious challenges including shortage of resources due to corruption in the past.

While talking on the occasion, the British High Commissioner said that England was providing its full support to Pakistan for the economic development.

BISP Chairman Marvi Memon said that this programme would benefit the poor women and their children, and they would have opportunities to stand at their feet. She pledged that no corruption or embezzlement would not be tolerated in this programme.
