Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has taken suo moto notice of the deaths of children caused by pneumonia and diarrhoea, spread of Hepatitis-C, and high price of Hepatitis-C medicines.

He has sought comments from the Health Secretaries of the four provinces and fixed the case for hearing in the third week of the next month.

The CJP took suo moto notice on a petition filed by Sheraz Mahmood Qureshi, a resident of Mansehra. The petitioner attached the columns and articles of columnists published in national dailies, in which details of adverse condition of health and cleanliness and deaths of children were given.

A notification issued by the apex court on Friday says that a column by Orya Maqbool was made part of the petition, which says that due to the negligence of top officials in Pakistan, diarrhoea and pneumonia were increasing and due to the adverse condition of health institutes, and cleanliness, hepatitis is spreading.

The petitioner further informed the apex court that due to an increase in hepatitis, the prices of its preventive medicines have been increased.
