Provincial Minister and Special Assistant for Auqaf Abdul Qayyum Soomro opened 272nd annual Urs of sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai in Bhit Shah on Friday.
The provincial minister laid a floral wreath on the mausoleum and offered fateha. Later, Minister for Culture and Tourism Sharmila Farooqi inaugurated a cultural exhibition and visited various stalls.
Speaking on the occasion, Farooqi promised to take steps for the better arrangements and care of the mausoleum building. She said the people of Sindh possessed great reverence for their saints and elderly. Heavy contingents of police were deployed for security on the Urs. A large numbers of devotees of the Sufi shrine are reaching Bhit Shah to attend three-day ceremonies of the great poet and patron saint of Sindh. The Sindh government has announced public holiday in the province on the occasion of Urs.
