A design for landscaping around Metro Bus route is being finalised to beautify the City under an Rs 146 million funding provided by the Metro authority, Sabir Khan Saddozai, the technical advisor for the Metro Bus Project, said on Tuesday.
Presiding over a meeting held to discuss the plantation plan around the Metro route, Saddozai said that Commissioner Capt (r) Asadullah Khan had directed that the plan be finalised and handed over to the Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA), Multan for execution.
He said the PHA Multan would be provided a seven feet wide strip from one pillar to the next under the Metro flyovers for plantation of flowers and other plants.
Saddozai said the ground track of Metro would also be decorated with greenery and plants, and spaces would be left vacant on either side of the roads. He said that a sum of Rs 146 million had already been paid to the PHA Multan for beautification of the route.
PHA Horticulture Director Chaudhry Naseer Ahmad said that 7,500 saplings had been planted at different places, including slopes at Qasim Bagh food street, at the bank of Naubahar Canal, youth hostel sports ground and greenbelts near Shamsabad Chowk.
He said the PHA would prepare plantation plan after receiving the design from the Metro authority. He said that a walkway strip would also be developed adjacent to the seven-feet wide green belt under the flyover to facilitate pedestrians. He said that execution and completion of plan for plantation and greenery on 12.5 kilometre long Metro route would beautify the city.
