- Sharif distributes cheques among farmers under Kissan Package
- Asks empathisers to work for betterment instead of making slogans, holding protests
- Says his govt stands up for farming community despite fall in cotton, rice prices globally
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday his government was serving the masses with the sole objective of making Pakistan prosperous regardless of political affiliations.
Addressing a huge gathering at Mai Heer Stadium where he distributed cheques among farmers under the Kissan Package, the premier said his government was proud to have launched one of the largest agricultural packages in the country’s history for a community which was the backbone of the national economy.
According to Sharif, the gigantic Rs 341 billion Kissan package will directly benefit 1,277,000 farmers owning 5,020,436 acres of land. He said that despite a dip in the prices of cotton and rice in the international market, his government stood up for the farming community and reached out to them in order to help them in real sense.
The prime minister deplored that due to the hue and cry of so-called well-wishers of the people, implementation of the Kissan Package was delayed, and remarked, “One has to stand with the needy and practically do something for their betterment instead of making slogans and holding protests.”
Speaking about October’s earthquake, Sharif said he had visited all the quake-hit areas to ensure that each and every affected person was compensated for their losses. He said the federal government had in consensus with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government agreed upon a compensation package for the families of those who had lost their loved ones or suffered material losses.
“We are doing politics of service and values; it is not at all for power,” said the premier as remarked that the amount paid in compensation was not enough to cover the losses incurred in the calamity but it did express his government’s gesture of solidarity.
Sharif said the ruling party at the federal level stood along with other political parties that gained majority votes in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since it believed in serving the masses selflessly. “I do not care which party is in power and in which province, I believe in caring for the people across the country,” he said, adding he rather believed in serving the people by rising above party politics.
About the power shortfall, the prime minister said his government was utilising all resources for power generation and load-shedding would soon be a thing of the past. He said it was his government’s priority to not only produce electricity but also provide it at cheaper rates.
