Fresh faces eye seats as PTI intra-party elections approach

Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) is expected to announce intra-party elections on December 5-6, after local body elections end.

New faces in the party are ready to contest the intra-party elections so that they can find seats in the party, Pakistan Today has learnt.

According to party sources, PTI’s intra-party elections will have a special emphasis on getting rid of dynastic politics and introducing real people that will rule with the consent of the masses.

Sources said that the party is also thinking of the LG polls and trying to figure out why the party has failed to bag the number of seats it thought it would win. The situation has been discussed by the central leadership and the party progress and performance will be considered by PTI members during the intra-party elections.

PTI’s Chief Election Commissioner Tasneem Naurani will announce the party elections after the third phase of the LG polls. There will be changes introduced in the party. The upcoming elections would be a

The party sources also said that elections were delayed in Islamabad because of issues with the membership database. This had caused many problems while new members were being registered. Things got a bit complicated because scores of people were registered without any checks on duplication of records, or originality. Groups within PTI had used the membership drive to register fake members using the voter lists provided by the election commission.

Multiple segments of the party, including the ISF, Youth, Women Wing, UC Officials etc., had registered members without coordinating with each other.

The issue had been reported to higher ups in the party but people were too happy with the number of members to care about the fake or duplicate entries, the sources said.

The sources also told Pakistan Today that it was high time the party took some tough decisions and kicked out some trouble makers from the party; even if someone is on a high position, or if they were one of the first workers of the party.

PTI Punjab Organiser Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar told the scribe that considerations and deliberations for the upcoming intra-party elections are currently underway.

“Deliberations are underway by the central leadership regarding the elections,” he said and added that the central leadership would decide and announce the intra-party elections itself.
