Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday that performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government would help his party win the next general elections in the country.
Speaking at a rally where Awami Jamhuri Ittehad (AJIP) leader Shahram Tarakai announced to merge his party into PTI, Khan said he would not even need to run an election campaign before the next general election as he was confident that Pervez Khattak’s “good performance” would help PTI win the polls.
The PTI chief congratulated AJIP leadership for their decision.
While accepting his party’s negligence in timely redressal of health issues of the people of KP, Khan vowed to build the finest hospitals and education facilities across the province.
“Although it has been delayed but you will soon see a change,” he said.
However, he said that hospitals in KP were better than in the other provinces.
“Hospitals in KP are the best in Pakistan, we do have completely neutral police and it was KP where country’s first independent accountability cell was established,” he said.
Khan criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government for wasting funds on mega projects.
He said that his party “will spend taxpayers’ money on the country’s poor people instead of ‘wasting’ it on building roads” when it comes to power.
“I will not have to campaign for elections after the current government’s tenure ends,” Khan told a huge gathering of party workers and supporters.
“We will never beg for foreign loans… instead of imposing taxes, we will spend money on people,” Khan said, adding that all the political parties had formed an alliance against the PTI.
Khan demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to build the small route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor first in order to connect Balochistan with the rest of Pakistan.
“Neglecting the small route will be a cruelty,” he said, urging the government to give KP its share of natural gas, which the province was deprived of.
The PTI chairman said his party would also launch a cricket academy for children in KP besides creating a number of sports facilities in the province.
“Wasim Akram has already agreed, and we will soon start a cricket academy for our children who will emerge as the best cricketers.”
The K-P government will announce special relief packages for orphans and widows, and create rehabilitation centres for street children in various provincial cities, added the PTI chief.
The cricketer-turned politician was of the view that all parties had ganged up against PTI, but claimed he would solely fight against all and defeat them.
Khan said his government had fulfilled its promise by commercialising all government guest houses in KP, which saved considerable resources.
“We have not privatised but commercialised the guest houses and soon we will commercialise the KP Chief Minister’s House,” he said.
