Pakistan has called for a clear, resolute and unified approach based on humanitarian principles to tackle the unprecedented refugee crisis in the Mediterranean basin.

Speaking in a General Assembly meeting in Washington about Syrian asylum-seekers, Pakistan Ambassador to UN Maleeha Lodhi said foreign intervention begets more chaos and violence breaking down established structures, destroying states and displacing people.

She said few countries had blatantly refused to accept Muslim refugees.

The Pakistani envoy said denial of asylum to Muslim refugees by some countries was legally, politically and morally untenable.

Ambassador Lodhi said the flow of humanity to European shores must be met with humanity.

She said Pakistan is still hosting more than three million Afghan refugees.

Maleeha Lodhi stressed the need for political solutions to halt conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

  1. Why don't Pakistan take back their own citizens that have tried to sneak -in to the western country under the pretext of the refugees?
